All of our jewelry is crafted by hand and designed in our local atelier in Berchem, Antwerp using ethically sourced or recycled silver and gold. Occasionally, we make use of the services of local craftsmanship for parts of the process (for example setting stones).
Sterling silver or 925 silver is an alloy that consists of 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% copper.
The word karat refers to the measurement used to determine the proportion of gold used in a piece of jewelry. It means that at least 75% (or 18/24 parts) gold has been used in combination with silver and copper.
Other possibilities are 8 karat, 14 karat and sometimes even 24 karat gold in other countries.
Gold-plating or gilding is a process that refers to a base metal being coated with a layer of 18 karat gold. Sterling silver is most often used. This coating can be applied in different layers measured in microns.
At Nuncha Rhynn Jewelry, gold-plated treasures always have a layer of at least 3 microns of 18K gold to guarantee fine quality.
It is normal for the layer of gold-plating to wear off in time since it cannot be fixed permanently.
Friction with skin, clothing or other jewelry but also habits such as not taking off your jewelry while showering or working out can speed up this process.
Please contact us at hello@nuncharhynn.com if you would like to have your jewelry goldplated again.
Please remove your jewelry when working out, swimming in the pool or ocean or showering.
Silver and gold dislike perspiration, salt water and chemicals present in soap or cleaning agents. All of these are able to tarnish your jewelry.
Sterling silver jewelry tends to oxidize when it is exposed to light, air and humidity.
It is therefore advisable to store your jewelry in a Nuncha Rhynn Jewelry box and keep it away from humid places such as the sauna or the bathroom.
You can polish your silver jewelry with either a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush and a mild, preferably organic soap that doesn’t contain any harsh cleaning agents.
You can also treat it with a Hagerty’s silver dip solution, rinsing with warm water afterwards. Make certain your jewelry is completely dry before storing again.
18 karat gold jewelry can be polished with either a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush and a mild, preferably organic soap that doesn’t contain any harsh cleaning agents.
Since the layer of 18K gold-plating is not permanent, it is not recommended to polish or clean your gold-plated jewelry since friction will only cause the layer to disappear faster.
Please contact us for a new layer of gold-plating if necessary.
Simple. We are obsessed with the beauty of a straight line. An organic shape. An unusual texture. The way sunlight refracts through a diamond.
We speak beauty. So, let’s talk.
